As they wait for the star, the five "Joans" begin drinking and dishing. DAVID HOCH - Early 20s, Leo’s memorist. Good-looking, not intimidated by this crowd but smart enough to lay low when the verbal volleys fly.

Once bright names on the social register, now they live in Grey Gardens, an East Hampton estate overrun by cats and plagued by memories. THE LION IN WINTER
by James Goldman
Directed by Michael Leeds
REHEARSAL DATES: June 15 - July 7, 2027
PERFORMANCE DATES: July 8 - August 1, 2027 (Possible Extension through August 8)
Sibling rivalry, adultery, and dungeons. The Lion in Winter is a modern-day classic. Comedic in tone yet dramatic in action, the play tells the story of the Plantagenet family, who are locked in a free-for-all of competing ambitions to inherit a kingdom. The queen, and wealthiest woman in the world, Eleanor of Aquitaine, has been kept in prison since raising an army against her husband, King Henry II. The play centers around the inner conflicts of the royal family as they fight over both a kingdom and King Henry’s paramour during the Christmas of 1183. As Eleanor says, “Every family has its ups and downs,” and this royal family is no exception.
SEEKING:
HENRY II - 50s, Male, Any Ethnicity. The King of England, Henry is the husband of Eleanor of Aquitaine and the father of Richard, Geoffrey, and John. In his fifties, Henry is nearing the years when most men of that age died; however, he still has remarkable vigor and wit, as well as physical prowess. His main desire is to keep his kingdom together after his death.
RICHARD - 26, Male, Any Ethnicity. The oldest of the three sons of Henry and Eleanor, Richard becomes known as Richard the Lion Heart. He is his mother’s choice for the next King, and is probably the best warrior of the three sons.
GEOFFREY - 25, Male, Any Ethnicity. The middle son of Henry and Eleanor, Geoff rey has no one fighting for his right to any throne, and he usually accepts his fate, but it upsets him that he is typically not considered in any matters of the heart or family. He is described as the most cerebral of the three boys.
JOHN - Adult who plays 16-17, Male, Any Ethnicity. The youngest of the three sons of Henry and Eleanor, John is described as a sweet-faced, pimply, immature boy. He is, however, his father’s choice for the crown, and he uses this knowledge in taunting his two brothers
ELEANOR OF AQUITAINE - 61, Female, Any Ethnicity. The wife of Henry II and mother of Richard, Geoffrey, and John, Eleanor is a strong and powerful woman in her own right. She is still beautiful and still in many ways in love with her husband. She is a danger to Henry because of her strength and intelligence, and she champions the fight for Richard to be the next king.
ALAIS CAPET - 23, Female, Any Ethnicity. The sister of Philip Capet, Alais is of the royal blood of France and would thus, through a contracted marriage with Richard, ally the two strong countries of France and England. She was raised as a child by Eleanor, and is the mistress of Henry. She is no less a pawn in the machinations of Henry and Eleanor than are their sons.
PHILIP CAPET - Adult who plays 17, Male, Any Ethnicity. The king of France, Philip is also the brother of Alais. He is young, but has already become a strong monarch, although no match for Henry. He desires to marry off Alais to Richard and have Richard crowned king, thus cementing a relationship between the two countries.
